Detailed Explanation
INPUT
- GOOD ORGANIC SEEDS 7 kg per ACRE when broadcast plantation. 2.5 kg for row plantation. No maintenance is needed for broadcast or drilled plantings, but rowed. plantings require clean cultivation for maximum seed production
- Brown top millet seed will germinate within five days and forage or seed will be ready to harvest within two months.
- Cow dung and urine every 15 days.
- Fertilization with phosphorus and nitrogen can help increase forage productivity in two parts day 1 and day 30. explained in video below.https://youtu.be/bgHYFJ7dp64 If chemical manure is given more quantity then the plants will grow taller but once the wind blows the seeds would fall on the ground leading to the total crop loss
- AMADAM to keep away insects at the corner/surrounding the land
- panicle browntop millet give higher yields
- Best times are june, october and january
- remove grass/ weed- PLANT seeds after few days after watering land so that grass or weed can be removed.
- 1kg millets only 200 litres water is required.
- MIXED FARMING use kandi / toor dal, sunflower SEED TYPES: Bhairabi variety - 28.80 Quintals per acre, round panicle browntop millet,
PROCEDURE
- Plant Rate Broadcast: 30 to 40 lb./acre
- Planting Time: May - August, october and january
- Planting Method: Well-prepared, firm seedbed SOW THE SEEDS 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep
- Seeds to be free from weed seeds
- BTM be grown in drought regions. Minimum requirement is one rain and the soil is wet.
- Use tippe manure 20kgs and nusi manure for better results.
- NUSI MANURE
- To prepare IT 2 kg cow dung, 2 litre cow urine and 1kg lime are mixed well and left for drying in shade. “As millet seeds are small in size it is mixed in this manure. 1 kg seed is mixed with 4kgs of nusi manure
- BANANA FERTILIZER Take banana petals cut them and put it in water. Rinse water every 2 days until the water turns dark colour.
- https://youtu.be/0eiq_HXWs8M Instead put banana petals in mixi and grind it to make thick juice and put it in the soil before plantation. https://youtu.be/PctlUI5pFRM Jeevan amrut (a mixture of cow dung, cow urine, and nutritious organic material) ROW
- 3 to 4 feet distance between each crop in
- Row Plantation:Use toor dal/ kandi.
- BROADCAST PLANTATION
- When good soil fertility. Go for it.
SOWING: seeds are treated with Jeevan amrut (a mixture of cow dung, cow urine, and nutritious organic material) before they are raised to seedling stage on the nursery bed. Seedlings were transplanted in field after 15 days. SOW THE SEEDS 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep Exemption *(Jeevan amrut is applied and a log is rolled over the plants. The rolling bends the stalks so that new tillers crop up. Presence of more tillers intensifies the roots, helping the plant to take up more nutrients from soil and grow more produce)
MAINTENANCE: repeat till harvesting Cow dung and urine every 15 days. Fertilization with phosphorus and nitrogen can help increase forage productivity in two parts day 1 and day 30. Remove any weed or grass
Water frequency: water every time when the soil losing moisture. Depends upon the soil. See that there is no water clogging. One rice plant requires nearly 2.5 times the amount of water required by a single millet. Use mini tractors to remove grass / weed.
The crop is harvested in 75 to 80 days
OUTPUT
We get output in 3 forms - Upper, Middle and Lower
Upper part has seeds
Procedure to cut seeds 1.We can either cut the seeds directly using cutter and leave it middle part to gaze or 2.Cut till the stem and traditionally use tractor to roll on the plant to get seeds out
Middle
Middle part contains leaves and stem which can be fed to livestock such as cows and Browntop millet can accumulate toxic/lethal levels of nitrate and should not be fed to livestock if the plant has been stressed by severe drought or dry plant Browntop millet produces large quantities of seeds.shelf life of seed is about five to six years while the shelf life of browntop rice is only about 25 to 30 days
Lower
The roots and lower part of stem has good amounts of nitrogen and acts as refuel for soil for the next crop.
Seed Management
Millet seed should be stored at 13% moisture or less. Federal grain standards have not been established for millet. However, good quality millet seed should have a minimum of broken kernels and be relatively free from weed seeds. treated with Jeevan amrut mentioned in smi last paragraph. Adjacent strips of crop plantings should be wide enough to manage as a separate stand. Browntop strips should be only 15 to 20 ft wide, which is sufficient to allow adequate seed production and provide easy accessibility for wildlife utilization.
1 ACRE GIVES 15 QUINTALS
1 quintal gives 40-50 kg rice 25x15×40×250 = 37,00,000 ( lower margin if the millets are processed)
We can produce more than 15 quintal i.e upto 25 quintal with proper watering and manure usage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MWkfHJIJv8
PROCESSING
It is difficult due to the hard outer cover of the seed. As a result, farmers get only 40 to 50 kg of grain from one quintal of Korale seeds difficulties arise when processing it. It is comparatively a difficult task due to the hard coat of the seed. That is why farmers get only 40 to 50 kgs of rice from one quintal of Korale seeds. In the earlier days, grinding stones were used (beesukallu) to separate the grain from the seed. Today, grinding stones have almost disappeared from rural life and Korale seeds are processed in the flour mills that process the finger millet. Mr. Ugrappa owns a flour mill in Hendore and is also skilled in processing Korale in the mill. “One should have common sense to process millets like Korale in the existing flour mills. Otherwise, there will be losses as Korale rice turns to flour”, adds Raghu. Even after processing, there will be some bran on the rice. This will be processed further through winnowing. The size of Korale rice is very small and separation of stones is difficult.
TRADITIONAL METHOD: To remove the husk from the grain, one can use two forces – impact or shear. A stone grinding mill, manual or motor powered, employs the shear force while manual pounding or centrifugal hulling machines use the impact force.
Output can be more with precise processing techniques like not cutting more than shell etc. https://business.google.com/website/website--3577312867919439130165-foodmanufacturingsupply/ 078923 32576
