Firstly, Apple need to know 1$ = 73.98 INR (+27% higher per unit than other countries). Apple price for its iPhone in USA is $1000 and in India it is INR 127000.
Secondly, Apple does not give premium experience and service in India as it gives in other countries. So no expenditure. (-10% per phone)
Thirdly, Apple does not have any luxurious stores and employees as in other countries. So no expenditure, maintenance and salary. (-20% per phone)
Where does the remaining amount go mentioned in the first point? I know apples greed account. In order to be number 1 in any segment the company should be competent in technology and pricing. Few years back, Apple even removed 3D touch right? Now it removed the basic requirement which is the charger!
Some say its shipping cost are high. Even if Apple makes one trip on a cargo plane with 10 million units the cost per phone is INR 500. Others say its the taxes. Indian tax is 18% for a phone which is less than the above second and third points. India put forth a small proposition to set few stores in India which Apple ignored and this led the way to other Chinese companies.
Then why are Apple prices so expensive in India. Even Timothy Donald Cook do not know. I personally bought an apple phone but I could not feel that premium or out of the box experience except Face ID. It started malfunctioning and lagging after few months of use.
Moreover, Apple raised its prices in 2015 with the introduction of 3D touch. However, it did not slash its prices in 2018 when they removed 3D touch. When we tear down a new apple iPhone 12 PRO the full cost of the components are just $350 its the apple ecosystem + $50 for assembly and transport, we are paying the remaining $600 for software and future R&D.
